Year in review and news. It's been ages since I updated and I felt it was time to do something about it. This was a busy year that resulted in surprisingly little work beyond my book. Claire and I were lucky enough to be able to purchase a home. This necessitated a move out of the Main Street studio I've had for over five years. It was a welcome relief to leave the land of Sunday painters. Exposure to this environment was starting to affect my work in very negative ways and I began to avoid the studio altogether. Now we are in a 1930 brick bungalow located north of Houston's downtown. The best Mexican restaraunt I've ever eaten at is right around the corner and I'm hatching plans for a separate studio building in the backyard. (8:02p.m., CDT, 28 February 2005)

I was just sent this picture of two stacks of my book. I can't believe I'm seeing this. A few will be at the gallery soon, and the remainder of the shipment will arrive later. Rock out! I've produced and left something behind that should be around after my death (well, as long as the paper holds out). (4:16p.m., CST, 24 April 2004)

Last Thursday, I was sitting at work when Sonic Youth came walking up my sidewalk. Kim, Thurston, and Lee all looked around the shop for a good while and eventually, Lee and Kim bought something. I was a stupid fanboy and asked if I could take a picture. Here is the result. When in Houston, Sonic Youth shops at the Menil Bookstore.

Nice Krisis is now in Paris, having arrived safely by air and electronic means. The cover has been tweaked slightly from my original design and it has made a drastic improvement in quality. Thank you to Claire for helping me with it. The book will go to press next week and a review by writer Jean-Luc Fromental will appear in OneStar Press' newspaper, AfterArt. (9:00pm CST, 7 March 2004)

A new exhibition at the Bower (114 South St. Mary, Building One, Suite 200 San Antonio , TX, 210.535.3302) in San Antonio, Texas, entitled Selective Memory, will feature the work of six Houston-area artists, including a sculpture and a large drawing by Patrick Phipps.

The forthcoming book from Patrick Phipps, entitled Nice Krisis, is currently in pre-production at OneStar Press and should be available sometime this Spring. If you would like more information regarding this title, please contact me via email.

PatrickPhipps.com goes live on February 29, 2004. Happy Leap Day! Many thanks to Claire Chauvin for the site design.
